Body of Work by Roos van de Kieft

The London-Based Photographer Offers a New Perspective on the Physicality of Photographs
Posted by Gestalten—10/2016

Between smartphones, computer monitors, and the ever-present glow of television screens, so many of the images we are exposed to each day exist strictly in the digital sphere. Detached from the depth and physical presence of a printed image, it is this tension wherein Roos van de Kieft works. For Body of Work, the London-based photographer filled a gallery with images, each carefully placed as to build a relationship between the subjects of each photograph and the physical space. From some vantage points, the images line up perfectly with the gallery’s architecture; in others, the connection is lost.

“By encouraging the viewer to move around and see the work from different angles, this project aims to make the viewer conscious with their own physical body and question the way they perceive imagery,” says van de Kieft.
