Denim Paintings by Ian Berry

The Artist from London Lays Down Strokes Made from Strips of Everyone’s Favorite Fabric
Posted by Gestalten—02/2017

Almost everyone has their favorite pair of blue jeans. Some prefer them crisp and fresh from the rack. Others want their denim well-worn, softened with age and lightened with time. Regardless of which tone or hue our trousers come in, there's a story threaded into our favorite pairs of pants, and artist Ian Berry is exploring how to use one of the most popular man-made materials.

Using strips of denim in its many shades, Berry assembles large-scale collages with a keen attention to detail. As he layers denim on denim, the fabric’s distinctive grain adds texture and depth to the deep blue and shining whites. The final products are beautiful tributes to the blue jeans we all know and love. See more work by Ian Berry below, and explore the rich history of everything denim in our book Blue Blooded
