Forest House by Primus Architects

A Woodsy House for the Danish Wilderness
Posted by Gestalten—02/2017

Getting lost in the woods presents a duality of experiences: it’s liberating to be free, to be isolated, and to be alone, but it’s also energizing to be surrounded by loved ones around a growling fire that you built together. The Forest House by Primus Architects in Asserbo, Denmark, was built with a balance of seclusion and inclusion in mind. Stretching their design on its vertical axis, the house maximizes overhead space and natural light: it feels open and inviting, and offers plenty of space for entertaining. Connecting the living spaces is a thin hallway that partitions the rooms into smaller, cozier nooks: there is a sense of intimacy.

From the outside, scales of solid oak treated with iron sulfate are straggered and layered, offering a striking and weather-proofed facade. To see more escapes from the city, check out our most recent cabin compendium The Hinterland.
